I am elementary school teacher for over 18 years for Chicago Public Schools. I taught in the south side of Chicago area called Canaryville, and just completed teaching on the west side area known as Austin/Lawndale. The school on the west side of Chicago was part of the phase out program to close schools for poor performance. I want emphasize that my school did not close for low performance on standard test. I have taught several grades, work as a team player, and a mentor teacher to new teachers joining Chicago Public Schools. I taught in the After School Program for 12 years. This past year I was involved with the state of the art tutoring program with notebook computers for each student in the program. The name of the program is Learn It Systems; where each student works at their own pace. My responsibility in this program is monitor students progress and to keep them on task. As a teacher I have completed several program to increase and benefit students in areas of Reading,Writing, and Math. Some of these programs are Reading First, Guided Reading, Math Trailblazers, and EveryDay Math.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified teacher and spent most of my teaching time in primary. I taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade the most in my career. I love teaching in a self-contained setting. You are able to get to know your students and they get to know you. I always tell my students we are family and we need to work together to be successful. I am always open to new ideas and trends in education.

Study Skills

As a teacher I highly recommend that students find a quiet place with no television or music to study. I tell students that I study best by looking in the mirror and doing it out loud. It is important that as a tutor/teacher you show the student how to study. As a tutor I will show students how to take notes. I will show students how to outline a chapter. Special Needs

I am a certified teacher who works with Special Education students to meet their IEP goals. I work closely with Special Education to make sure the goals listed on the IEP are done right. I modify the curriculum to make sure students expectation of her/himself. An example of modification would be if there are 20 spelling words on the test, he/she will only be responsible for 10. I work one on one with the students on daily basis.
