I would like my potential students to know that I love chemistry and the role it plays in out daily lives. That being said, I am very committed to making the chemistry concepts come alive to my students whether it is in a class room or during a one-on-one tutoring session or in my own kitchen!
I have been teaching the first year college chemistry (General chemistry) which is equivalent to chemistry H and AP chemistry in high schools, and Introductory Chemistry, equivalent to regular or basic chemistry in the standard high school curriculum. With many years of experience I have mastered the process of breaking down the big concepts to small, bite-size packets that students can easily digest! To be successful in chemistry one has to have good algebra skills so I stress on being meticulous with procedures to solve chemistry problems. Bridging the algebra-chemistry gap is an important aspect to be successful in chemistry. I provide lots of practice problems and questions aligned with the students specific objectives for the unit. I let my students solve problems and guide them through the process, so that they can apply this process-oriented approach to any higher order problems.
I have tutored students for chemistry (Hons) in high school for the last couple of years and helped them secure at least one letter grade better before they started sessions with me. Most of them have actually started enjoying the subject and are inspired-the most rewarding aspect for me!
