My name is Xiao and I recently immigrated to the United States in August 2012 by way of Anhui, China, a province just a few hours from Shanghai. One of the major reasons why I chose to move so far from my homeland is because my husband, Anthony, is an American and convinced me to come to the U.S. to start our family together. We both have relocated to the Northern Virginia area for work and really enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful changing colors of autumn here!
I have joined WyzAnt because I have always had a passion for teaching throughout my life, specifically in art education and oil painting arts. In fact, I graduated from Huaibei Normal University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in art education and also received an official high school teaching certificate from the Chinese federal government certifying my ability to teach art education classes to high school students and any grade level below. A certification from the Chinese government is the highest level of attainment that a Chinese teaching candidate can receive.
After graduation, I was employed as an art teacher in Beng Bu’s number one ranked high school, one of the premier high schools in Anhui province. I taught for three years there and then decided to pursue my master’s in oil painting at the Anhui University of Finance and Economics in 2007. In 2010, I graduated from this program and was commissioned for multiple art exhibitions in Shanghai, including being hired at the Shanghai Zendai Museum of Art. Lastly, I won several awards from the Anhui government and my university for my oil painting compositions and was featured in the “Chinese Artists Yearbook” magazine as a young up and coming artist in China.
I really want to teach young people (children from 5 to 17) the joys of oil painting/general art education as well as Mandarin. I can speak English at a conversational level and would also like to teach oral and written Chinese if needed. Looking forward to meeting you!
