I have been teaching for 25 years. I love working with the little ones. Presently, I am a Reading Recovery teacher for first graders. I have been in this position for 11 years. Previous to that I taught first grade for 11 years. I have also taught self contained Learning disabilities classes at the middle school level and intermediate level. I believe one on one is the best to help a student succeed. When I have tutored I use books, journals for writing and manipulatives. I also have a very positive approach. I also require the student just read and write at home for homework. I also feel communication with the parent while tutoring the student is very important. This can just be a quick talk when the child is picked up or a note to the parent. I have usually tutored in a library, as I find this is a quiet place and also provides other books for the student. If a student comes and is having a hard time concentrating I usually end up reading to the student and we discuss the book.
My greatest reward is seeing children learn to read and write and build up their confidence because they have achieved their goal.
