I think a tutor is just as much of a coach as a teacher. I believe that the schools are full of students who have mathematical ability, but they lack the confidence to "do" math. If I can get a pupil's confidence up, that is most of the battle.
I don't believe in giving students the answers, but asking the right questions to guide them to the answers. Practice is important. Lots of practice seems to be a passe concept now, but on the contrary, I believe it is essential for learning mathematics.
