I am a certified teacher and have taught for the past 5 years in both private and public schools. Although my specialty is working with preschool age children, I connect well with any age group. I have both my Bachelors and Masters in Education, specifically with the ages of birth to third grade, with emphasis placed on English Studies, Writing, Publishing, and Literacy. I am currently qualified to teach Education and English classes at college level.

Due to the influence of family members growing up, I am also an excellent cook/baker. I have a working knowledge of most of sports, having been on Track/Field, Volleyball, Softball, and Badminton teams. I have also been an assistant to PE programs teaching children sports at the High School Level.

While earning my degrees, I was taught many aspects about technology, including how to build computers, load their operating systems, and load their software. I have worked in an office setting, as well as in classrooms, so I am very familiar with many forms of technology in general, as well as time-management skills, and study skills. I pride myself on being able to break any process down in order for another to pick up on it successfully. I have done it for many others, and I can do it for you!

Grammar

As a student I have always excelled at Reading and Writing. I have tutored students in Elementary School, High School, and at College level. Aside from my Early Childhood Teaching degree, I also have a degree in English Studies and Children's Literature, both of which I graduated at the top of my class in. One of my favorite subjects in my degree was Grammar, which I tutored other fellow students in while even taking the class. I hope to pass my passion on to your student!

Microsoft Word

One of the benefits of graduating with a double Bachelors in English Studies and Early Childhood Education, is that I learned how to make use of Microsoft word in my sleep. There are many different aspects of this program that can be very useful to those who know to use it. I would love to be of service to someone who would like to learn more about these facets.

Reading

As a child, books were one of the ways that I explored the world. As an adult, I have earned both a Bachelors in English Studies and a Masters in Children's Literature, gaining many skills on how to bring children into the reading process and connect them to great books. Writing

Because of my double Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and English Studies, and my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction: Children's Literature, I have gained a great deal of understanding of the writing process for different age levels. I am proud to say that I have only gotten a grade lower than an A- three times in the hundreds of papers I have written. It is by far my strongest subject, and I love nothing more than to help others get better at it because of this fact.

Proofreading

One of the benefits of graduating with a double Bachelors in English Studies and Early Childhood Education, is that I learned many proofreading techniques. Not only did the University pay me to help others proofread their own work better, but I worked as an Editorial intern of a magazine during my Senior year at ISU. I have been trained in grammar, writing, and technical writing and would love to help others understand how to make use of these skills with ease.

GED

As goes with any major test or class preparation, the GED combines the skills of Basic Math, Reading, and Writing. Aside from my English background from my undergraduate degree that covers higher level reading and writing skills, I have spent many years in positions where adults needed help finding resources to better themselves and their lives. I have learned many test prep strategies because of this, and have passed these strategies on to those in the process of bettering themselves.

Phonics

Having worked with at-risk students for the bulk of my teaching career, great emphasis has been put on language acquisition. Being able to understand the different parts of words, their sounds, and the rules that apply for reading and speaking them can be a tough puzzle for children to break down. However, with a little support and some fun games, children can learn to listen well, recognize the different parts of words, and conquer their language difficulties with flare!

Study Skills

One of the most fulfilling positions I have ever had has been tutoring study skills. At Illinois State University I worked with many students, young and old, on how to balance their time and studies, as well as how to retain the information for their classes. It's been my experience that any student who can connect their subject matter to real life situations has a much better chance of learning the lessons. I help my students find those connections.

Flute

I started playing the flute in 5th grade and continued on through college. I have 13 years experience playing the flute, and 10 years of playing the piccolo in total. I have performed in concerts, marching bands, and pep bands since 7th grade, and received first place medals in many contests along the way for solos, duets, and trios. I also performed in an Orchestra for the Glenbard East theater department for the musical "Oliver". I look forward to passing on my love for music to a new pupil.

Cooking

I have been cooking since I was four. I routinely teach, not only children, but adults how to make different forms of recipes. I am accomplished in baking/ cooking, as well as cake decorating. I use mostly Wilton tools, but have plenty of supplies to teach with.

Praxis

I have successfully taken the Praxis basic skills test for teaching and have helped many fellow students with studying for the test. I was able to finish the test with ample to time to spare and received above average marks on my test results.

Microsoft Publisher

In the process of being a double major in my undergraduate at Illinois State University, I became well versed in computers and online publishing programs. I worked for several years as an assistant in editing/ publishing for two separate companies, using Publisher to create newsletters, calendars, invitations, business cards, business stationary, etc. I have also used it extensively in a school setting.
