I am an experienced English teacher and also write a lot for both a hobby and for business. I am very well versed in grammar, style and mechanics of the English language. I am also quite knowledgeable about test taking skills and teach/tutor them routinely. Between these two major skills, I feel I am well qualified to tutor for the ACT English exam.
I have been tutoring high school students for a long time in the ACT test and am quite comfortable with it. I have excellent grades in English language and literature and have taught World Literature and Creative Writing at a small private high school. I feel my reading comprehension is quite high.
I have a grown son who was diagnosed with ADD as a young student. I have tutored a high school student with ADHD for a couple of years now. I learned about ADD/ADHD in the Exceptional Child class that all certified teachers in the state of Illinois are required to take (I am a certified middle school and High school teacher.) When I worked as a substitute teacher I volunteered to take these assignments because I had experience with my own son and some background in it. I was usually successful with these students and they often asked for me because "I understood".
I have teaching certification in all the natural sciences and all the social sciences. As a result I have had several semesters of Algebra, Geometry, PreCalc and Calculus as well as Statistics in college. They were required courses for my major in Economics.
I am very comfortable with Algebra and would enjoy tutoring it.

I have a minor in Sociology, which is intricately related to Anthropology. I took several anthropology courses to fulfill a requirement for the Sociology minor. I teach Sociology and incorporate introductory Anthropology concepts into my Sociology courses. I am very comfortable and confident in Anthropology.
I have tutored young men wishing to take and/or improve their grade on this exam. My background in English and Math and test taking has been most helpful to them.
I have a current IL certification in AP Biology and am currently teaching it. I started my undergraduate studies as a Biology/PreMed major. Biology has been a love of mine since childhood.
I would love to tutor in Biology, at any level.
I am a secondary education teacher certified in Biology. I am fully qualified to teach Botany. I just finished teaching a college freshman Biology course,(which is the AP HS course) and will be teaching it again this fall with the corresponding Lab.
My first career was about 12 years in the business world. My Masters is in Human Resources from Loyola University.
I then changed careers and went into teaching at the secondary ed level. I am certified in all the social sciences and all the hard sciences.
I feel with my business background combined with my teaching background I would be very comfortable teaching business. I am also familiar with both high school and college business course curricula.
I have a natural talent for working with high school and college level students in helping them assess their personality characteristics, analyze and find data of different jobs, and thinking about whether a job "fits" them or not.
As a high school and college teacher (freshman) I have many opportunities to informally help students with their career decisions. Because I have a Master's degree in Human Resources, and worked for 12 years in the field, I understand "jobs" and their unique characteristics quite well.
I love counseling students and enjoy helping them see things in new and different perspectives. Students tell me I am quite good at counseling -- better than their actual school counselors in some cases.
As a HS teacher certified in all the natural sciences including AP Biology I have had many courses in Ecology as well as a closely related field of Environmental Biology. It is one of my favorite areas and an ecology unit is always my last unit in Biology class for the year.

I have a B.S. degree in Economics from Iowa State University. I have tutored many people over the years in both macro and micro economics. I love the subject and would like to pass the on to my students.
I find it an easy subject to tutor in because of my extensive background and because I enjoy it so much.
I love to read and write. I am naturally good at writing and do it for an avocation. I take great pride in my writing and love to play with words, sentences, etc. I have taught World Literature, Creative Writing, English 101 and 102 with a slight ESL feature to it, and last, Argumentation and Rhetorical Analysis.
I also love literature and very much like teaching literature to children. I encourage a love of books and the reading process.
I am a trained Literacy Volunteer. I volunteered for two years with the Waubonsee Adult Literacy Program. I tutored several individual students during that time and saw them make much progress.
In addition, I teach English at the high school and college levels. I also am an amateur writer, and love the writing process
I am a certified secondary education Social Studies teacher with an undergraduate major in economics and minors in political science and sociology. I had many courses with geography as a theme running through them. I have also had World Geography.
I find geography and interesting topic which is shamefully not taught or not taught well by our schools. I always incorporate geography into my classes where ever I can.
Government & Politics
I have a degree in Economics and it required me to take enough credits in government that I went ahead and got a minor in it. I am currently certified to teach government at the AP level in high school. In addition my son worked for the the national Obama campaigns both times, and I got to learn about all the behind the scenes things that go on in a Political campaign, from staff recruitment, to resource allocation, to securing office space, to mass communications and to public relations. It was extremely informative to see all that happens. I feel very comfortable in this subject.
I teach college in an accelerated premed program. I use sample MCAT materials in my classes all the time. I am particularly familiar with the writing and behavioral sciences and biology parts of the exam. The entire faculty is familiar with the exam and all of its parts. We teach the skills to do well on it as a routine daily part of our curriculum.
I am certified to teach AP Biology. In the curriculum to gain that certification I had to take a Microbiology class and Lab. It was a 5 credit class. Between the class and microbiology units in regular biology I feel confident that I could tutor in this subject. It is my favorite sub-area of Biology.
I have many college credits in Math and statistics because it was required for my major in Economics. I am comfortable tutoring in PreAlgebra and Algebra 1. I try to teach my students to understand the concepts behind the numbers, so they understand in "words" what their equation means and how to interpret it.
As an English composition and Creative Writing teacher I have a very high understanding of how important proofreading is. It is critically important for serious writers. I took an online class in editing and proofreading just to increase my skill and awareness on this topic. My students can tell you it is a topic I get really riled up about. It can make or break an otherwise good writer.

I teach English and the social sciences as well. In English class I teach a unit on Public Speaking. I have many textbooks and handouts and other materials to use for this. I always work with my students to have practice runs actually at a podium and preferably with a microphone. I also teach them how to handle their notes, how to read their notes with expression, gesture and articulate appropriately and use good tone and word choice. I also teach them how to handle handouts, Power-points, visual aids and last but not least "stage fright"
I feel I can definitely help a student in this subject.
I have tutored many students in test taking skills and reading skills. This is an important topic. I always start my normal classes with a review of good reading techniques. These techniques help in class and also on standardized tests like the SAT Reading.
I have done a lot of writing in my life for various purposes and have always received excellent scores and nice comments. I am very good in grammar and interested enough in the use of correct grammar to look up questions I might have. This practice of course improves your subject knowledge.
There is more to writing than just knowing the rules though and that is style and voice. I understand these concepts and have taught them rigorously when I taught English and Creative Writing.
I feel I can help students learn a checklist of things to do to get a high score on the SAT writing test.
I have been sewing since I was a small child, approximately 40 years. I have made all types of simple and complex projects from tailored suits, lots of my own clothing, to simple projects that I used to teach my own daughter to sew. I come from a long line of "sewers" as my grandmother taught me. My mom, her sister, my cousin and I are (were) all serious sewers.
I am very patient with young children. I believe that learning to sew is an excellent life skill.
I am a certified secondary ed teacher and have subbed for many years, preschool through high school, which taught me to work with all levels of children. Last school year I went into the sewing lab in my free period and helped the girls and the teacher, just because I enjoyed it.
I have a minor in Sociology which includes approximately 16 college credits. I taught Sociology 101 at the freshman college level, last semester and this semester will be teaching Medical Sociology to a group of college PreMed students. Study skills is a subject area I have a great deal of experience in, ranging from grade school to college students. It covers such areas as organization, time management, how to read a textbook, how to find important information, test taking skills, and other topics. It is important to determine for each student what area they need the most help in and work from that starting point.
As a certified secondary education teacher with a middle school endorsement I have had much education in how to help students who are struggling. I substitute taught for 8 years in Pre-K through seniors in high school and I worked with all sorts of children who needed special help in their studies. As a high school teacher I taught my students at the beginning of the school year good study practices and checked on them throughout the year. Just yesterday, I gave a lesson to my freshman, on how to properly understand a textbook and how it was organized so that the student could maximize their studying in the least amount of time. I feel very qualified to handle this topic at all age levels, from both my educational background and my experience with students of all ages.
I have been an avid reader all my life and I also enjoy writing. As a result, my vocabulary has become fairly large. People comment to me that they are impressed with my vocabulary and most editors and professors give me high marks on my writing. When I teach writing I also include vocabulary building, for to speak and write well is to make a good impression as an educated person.
I have a secondary education certificate in the state of Illinois which certifies me to teach middle school and high school I am certified in ALL the social sciences including American History and World History. I am definitely a history "buff" and participate in roundtables, our local history center, give local history walks, and in general just love history.
I love to write and do it for a hobby. I also teach English Language and Composition to freshman in college. I teach Argumentation and Rhetorical Analysis to upper classmen. I find writing is perfect way to express myself. I enjoy passing my enthusiam on to students. I try to show them that it isn't as hard as they sometimes make it
