Hello! My name is Deborah, I've been in United States for 2 years and I started teaching Portuguese to my husband 5 months ago. He is already able to understand when I'm talking to my parents and he talks to them using Brazilian expressions and also full statements. My parents already say he will be fluent by the time he goes to Brazil at the end of 2013.
My methods include teaching writing and speaking at the same time, using the usual Portuguese spoken and not the formal orthodox method. I use a textbook you can find online and a dictionary. In the Beginner Class, the student will learn to greet, talk about him/herself, and describe everyday objects using simple adjectives. This course will also introduce the student to the geographical aspect, as well the cuisine and music of Brazilian culture.
Portuguese was my favorite subject in school. I also had good grades in grammar and writing. During school, I was always involved in writing productions like newspapers, books and scripts. After I graduate in Business Communications, I worked for a newspaper and for few companies always with the role to develop news, share information with different audiences and create speeches - things I am very good at.
