Xiaoyan has a BA in Art from China. She came from Beijing where she was born, raised and educated, so her accent is purely Beijing. She is an imaginative, lively and engaging teacher. She believes that language study is intrinsically connected to culture study. As a native of China, she can bring a first-hand perspective to classroom instruction. She has traveled to 17 provinces of China and gained familiarity with the culture and customs of the local populations. Her instructional approach holistically combines language, art, culture, geography and history to place language learning in the broad context of China. She is proud to have been recognized as one of the top 12 teachers (of 6000) in Beijing Haidian Elementary School District. She believes in hard work, persistence, and the lifelong pursuit of learning. Her passion is opening her students’ minds to new experiences.
