I am a patient, easy-going tutor for statistics and economics who has had considerable success in the past working with those who have math phobias (including grade schoolers). I like to connect coursework with real world examples to make a subject more understandable and relevant.

I possess economics-related bachelor's and master's degrees from DePaul University, and have had over ten years of experience as a federal government Economist/Statistician.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

My approach to English, as well as other subjects, is to stress patience and allow students to proceed at their own pace. I have successfully tutored grade school and high school students from widely differing backgrounds.

Economics

I have worked as a labor economist in federal and state government and have successfully tutored both high school and adult students in macroeconomics and microeconomics (I have also tutored statistics courses).

Elementary Math

I have successfully worked with elementary students in the past, tutoring both math and reading. This includes working with students under No Child Left Behind and also with those who have math phobias using a very patient approach.

Prealgebra

My approach to tutoring prealgebra, which I have done to both grade school students and adults, emphasizes thoroughness and patience--letting the student proceed at the rate he or she desires. I also try to bring in real world examples to make the subject matter more easily understandable and relevant.

Statistics

I have over ten years of experience as a statistician with the federal government and studied statistics at the graduate level as part of my M.A. program. I have had good success working with students who are non-math-oriented.
