I have years of tutoring experience in a variety of mathematics courses. I also gained invaluable teaching experience as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois-Chicago. I recently earned my master's in mathematics from UIC and have two bachelor's from Boise State University, one in mathematics and one in philosophy. I am currently teaching developmental math and introductory statistics at a local university.
Empathy is an important part of my tutoring philosophy. I approach tutoring with the understanding that many students suffer from math anxiety. This means that most students have at the least, a sense of dread, and in many cases have already resigned to failing before even stepping into a classroom. My response is to present material with an empathy to this math anxiety. I try to show distinct ways of solving problems to ensure that the student will be able to relate to the material.
