Dear students and parents:
I am an experienced, enthusiastic teacher and tutor who is committed to your child's academic success!
I received my M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction with ESL endorsement at National-Louis University (2010), and B.A. in English (cum laude) at Macalester College (1999). I also completed my teaching certification at Macalester College (1999). Additionally, I received the Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults sponsored by University of Cambridge, England while at International House, Rome, Italy (2000). I hold the Illinois State Type 03 certification (K-8); Illinois state certification for Substitute-90 Days Teaching; and the Illinois State ESL Approval. I also completed all course work for the Middle Level Education endorsement in language arts the first week of August 2013 at National-Louis University and my endorsement is being processed currently by the IL state board of education.
From 2010-2013, I as a Substitute Teacher in Evanston-Skokie District 65. I have worked as both a day-to-day and long-term substitute with Pre-K through 8th grade students in diverse learning environments and with versatile of skill sets and needs. I have since been hired as a teacher assistant at an Evanston elementary school for the 2013-2014 school year.
I have experience in age-appropriate curriculum and assessment development based on state and subject-specific standards, as well as designing lesson plans which apply differentiated instruction methods. Directly after my graduation from Macalester College in 1999, I served as a building substitute teacher at Andersen Elementary school in an urban metro area of Minneapolis and went on to teach ESL to children, teens, university students and adults in Rome, Italy. As a result, I have experience managing, engaging and motivating students in a variety of cultural environments. In my subsequent work in Educational Publishing both at McDougal-Littell and National Geographic School Publishing, I became very knowledgeable about a wide variety of curricular materials and resources. My teaching and educational publishing experiences provided me an opportunity to be part of an educational team in both leadership and support roles. I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching that respects the differentiated needs and learning styles of each student.
I am responsible, flexible and thorough in my teaching method. Having your child feel confident and able to better understand subject material s/he needs help in is my utmost priority. I look forward to working with your child to help them succeed in all academic endeavors!
