I am a recently retired educator with a wealth of teaching experience working with diverse student populations and special needs students.

I have designed assessment tools, evaluated students and developed specialized instructional programs for students and tutored students. I specialize in helping students who struggle with reading, writing, math, organizational, study skills and for life long learning. I also have provided support as an advocate for parents who have concerns about their child's IEP and the special education process.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. ADD/ADHD

I have been a special education teacher and case manager for over 30 years. I have extensive experience working with students who have experienced ADD/ADHD related problems which impacted their emotional, behavioral and academic success. I have designed behavioral plans, given inservice presentations to administrators, educators parents and special education teachers to help them understand and work successfully with students who exhibited ADD/ADHD symptoms.

Bodybuilding

I have been active in sports since I was ten years old and developed cross training regimens and bodybuilding to improve the performance of students. As a former football player I studied strength training and employed bodybuilding to maximize my abilities. As a middle school football coach I learned to understand and use body building, strength training and cardiovascular activities to train young athletes.

Dyslexia

I began my teaching career as a reading specialist in the field of special education. I specialized in goal development for dyslexia to help students adjust to the demands of problems they faced in the classroom. As a case manager and counselor I often called upon to assess the learning problems students were encountering in the classroom. I also worked directly with students, parents and staff members on the employment of successful strategies to mete the demands students faced.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over thirty years of experience working with elementary age students. I have taught almost every grade accept PreK and K. I created a number of learning based projects to motivate students and help foster their creativity. I wrote designed and wrote several special summer school programs for students. I taught 3rd and 6th grade summer programs for Public Schools for students who failed during the previous school year.

Phonics

I began my career as a reading teacher for general education students and later for students with special needs. I employed a number of different reading strategies and methods to help students master the skills they need to be successful learners.

Special Needs

I began my career as an educator as a general education teacher and worked with 3rd thru 8th grade students and later became a special education teacher, school counselor and case manager. As a case manager I was involved in all aspects of identifying, assessing and staffing students with special needs for over 25 years. At the schools I was at I tutored individual and small groups on a number of subjects specializing in reading and math support.

Study Skills

I have worked with students from the primary to the freshman year of high school. As a general classroom teacher, special educator and a counselor I have tutored individual and small groups of students. Research has shown there is a direct correlation with the application of the components of study skills and test taking strategies as a major factor in improving student performance.
