Hi,
My name’s Killian Y.
I’m a journalism student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications.
I’m also a writer for a hyper-local Chicago music website, Loud Loop Press. This summer, I worked as an editorial features intern at one of New York City’s free daily newspapers, Metro News — New York, specializing in writing about music and entertainment. Now, I'm transitioning to writing for The Roosevelts, a GQ-esque online publication.
I hail from a sleepy suburb of New Jersey outside of New York City, but live in Chicagoland during the school year.
My previous work experience includes being an editorial intern for Rapp (an advertising agency), a tutor in high school, and a second-grade teacher's assistant at Oakton Elementary School in Evanston, Ill.
My experience working with younger kids has taught me that establishing a friendly relationship with the student is key to getting results; the way I conduct tutoring is always very low-key and low-pressure with positive encouragement. I want the student to feel that his or her tutoring session isn't a chore or punishment, but rather more along the lines of receiving academic help from a friend.
