ACT Math
I have been helping students prepare for the math portion of the ACT for over seven years. My focus in on helping find efficient ways to boost your score by closing conceptual skills gaps. I recently helped one of my students go from a 26 up to a 33 on his ACT math score.
Algebra 1
During my eight years of teaching high school, I have taught Algebra 1 during the equivalent of 5 years (including credit recovery summer school). Enhanced by my teaching in the upper-level math courses, I help students focus on mastering the essential algebra skills they will need as they progress through their high school math curriculum.
Algebra 2
I have taught Advanced Algebra with Trigonometry (Algebra 2) at the high school level for the past three years and have tutored many students in the subject over the past eight years. Since I also teach AP Calculus, I am able to help my Algebra 2 students focus on mastering the essential skills they will need for continuing their mathematical studies.
Business
I have a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Information Systems, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Calculus
For the last two years, I have taught AP Calculus at the high school level. In addition to my academic and independent study of calculus related to passing my National Board Certification, I have participated in ongoing professional development at Loyola University this year. I really enjoy the subject of calculus and look forward to helping you make sense of it.
Geometry
I have taught Geometry for several of my eight years as a high school math teacher. I really enjoy the topic and have been very successful in helping both my classes and individual tutoring students have fun while mastering the essentials of Geometry. From solving geometric proofs to mastering the Law of Cosines, you are likely to enjoy it all working with me.
Prealgebra
Algebra can be a real challenge for students who missed some of the basics. In my eight years of teaching high school and providing highly individualized tutoring throughout Chicago's north shore, I have become very good at identifying and shoring up prealgebra skills gaps. I make the process fun, which helps my students both enjoy the experience and better retain the conceptual skills they need to succeed as they move forward into Algebra.
Precalculus
Success in Calculus is much greater for students who perform well in Precalculus. There are many difficult topics covered in Precalculus, and it can be really overwhelming. Having taught AP Calculus for the past two years and having taught Precalculus either in formal classes or with tutoring students over the last eight years, I am familiar with the essential skills students need to succeed, both this year and beyond.
SAT Math
Where the ACT is oriented more toward content knowledge, the SAT leans toward critical thinking and problem solving skills. Because of my in-depth work with students over the last eight years in their development of these skills, I am able to help SAT students refine and strengthen their analytic thinking, which in turn helps them perform better on the SAT.
Statistics
I launched the AP Statistics program at my high school and subsequently taught the course for two years. I now teach AP Calculus instead, but I love the topic of statistics and feel it is one of the most useful of applied mathematics skills to master. I have successfully tutored numerous students in the topic over the years and would love to find out how I might be able to help you.
Trigonometry
As I was completing the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, I really enjoyed my study of Trigonometry and earned an "A" in my own college trig class. I have taught Trigonometry at the high school level and tutored in the topic now over the last eight years and have helped many students have fun coming into their own mastery of the topic. I look forward to finding out how I can help you.
