European-trained professional soprano teaching in Chicago

Hello!

I am a professional soprano performing in the United States and Europe who also gives voice lessons in the Chicago area.

I work with students on both technique, musicality and performance practice. My background is classical, but I also have a few students who focus on musical theater. It is a great joy for me to teach and discover each student's unique sound.

Ear Training

Being a professional musician who performs a lot in Europe, and having graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory in 2005, I have extensive knowledge of Ear Training. The program in Amsterdam is well known for it's musical theory, analytical listening, sight reading and ear training (perhaps especially due to the big focus on Contemporary Music in the Netherlands.)

Sight Singing

I had a thorough training in sight singing. As a child I was a member of the award winning Dutch National Children's Choir.The conductor often let us read the music, sing through it twice, and then we were supposed to know the piece by heart.
I got the highest grade in sight singing of my class at the Amsterdam Conservatory, without ever having attended the weekly classes.

Voice (Music)

I am a professional soprano from Europe (The Netherlands)Apart from my concerts in The Netherlands, I performed in Chicago as a soloist with Baroque Band, The Haymarket Opera Company and will be a soloist with Chicago's Apollo Chorus and Contemporary Music Ensemble Fulcrum Point.
Apart from performing, I simply love teaching. I have a few private students and would like to add a few more.

Violin

Apart from being a professional soprano performing in Europe and the US, I also trained to be a violinist from the age of 4 until my 20th. I took violin as a second instrument for a while in Conservatory and played first violin in several student orchestras (we played the big standard symphonies-Brahms 4th Symphony, Also sprach Zarathustra by Strauss, Peer Gynt by Grieg etc.) plus a wide variety of other musical styles. During my High School years in the Netherlands (I am Dutch by Origin), I was selected to be a Gymnasium student.(Gymnasium is the highest level in Dutch High Schools, only 7 percent of the students get selected.)
I chose a program that focused for 6 years on Dutch, English, German, French, Attic Greek, Latin and Art.
