My primary focus is: Accounting and Finance.
My secondary focus is: statistics, venture capital, portfolio mgmt, forensic accounting
I typically see a 40/60 split between exam prep candidates (CFA/CFP exams) and MBA/college students.
I *only* tutor in locations nearby public transit in (CTA Purple/Red lines and Metra North line). I strongly prefer in-person sessions that are greater than 1 hour in length.
WHY YOU SHOULD CONTACT ME:
I'm probably one of the strongest tutors you will find in accounting in finance in Chicago (as evidenced by my ratings/feedback, none of which I have solicited). I have a very strong mix of real world experience, having worked on Wall St. at various hedge funds and venture capital partnerships for 8 years. I have strong academic knowledge that has been repeatedly commended by many students who have often told me statements like, "I wish you were my professor at Northwestern, etc."
MY EDUCATION BACKGROUND:
I've a masters degree in accounting and a bachelors degree in finance from Tulane University. I am a CFA Charterholder. I passed every exam on the first attempt.
MY WORK EXPERIENCE BACKGROUND:
I have eight years' working experience at multiple investment partnerships (hedge funds and venture capital fund). I was a generalist/special situations analyst and venture capitalist primarily focused on the technology sector. I've industry working experience with many leading executives from the former CFO of Intel to CEOs and Chairmen of many small/mid cap companies.
Venture Capital: I’ve dealt with every aspect of venture capital including sourcing deals, due diligence, executing transactions, managing investments, board meetings, and exiting investments. Firms I’ve invested in have been sold to Oracle, Intel and several other well known companies.
Hedge Funds: I’ve invested in all sorts of special situations including accounting frauds/restatements, spin-offs, restructurings, debt/equity recaps, cap structure arbitrage, and other complex situations. Total assets under management of funds I have worked on exceed $5 B USD. I've managed positions as large as $80 M USD. Most of the funds I worked on were based in NYC and managed by ex-Goldman people.
Advisory Work: I've worked on M&A transactions, debt offerings, and other related investment banking work. I've helped several companies fix their operational and financing strategies including dynamic cost forecasting/hedging strategies and other Monte Carlo simulations.
MY TUTORING EXPERIENCE:
I've tutored people off and on as a personal hobby. It’s expanded more in recent years. I have tutored people from the following organizations:
Wharton, Creighton, Northwestern, DePaul, New York University, Columbia, Stanford, Univ of Wisconsin, CCC, NIU, Wayne State Univ., Northeastern Illinois, Univ of Chicago, Columbia University, many of the major financial institutions (Chicago Mercantile Exchange, JPMorgan Chase, AXA Financial, Merrill Lynch, etc.), and several others.
PLEASE NOTE:
- I am *NO LONGER* tutoring for Series 7, 65 exams. I'm too busy with other work. I've cut it out.
- Please DO NOT contact me to install software (QuickBooks, Excel, etc.) on your computer. I am not a computer repair or software installation person, even if it’s accounting or stats software.
- Projects related to work or final exam/coursework projects are OK. I frequently fix people’s financial models or knock out exam preps on a one-off basis.
- If you contact me – PLEASE BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. Tell me what you are studying, any textbooks, syllabus and explanation of the subjects (chapters, topics) you need help on. The more detail you provide, the better I can let you know whether or not I can be of assistance.
