I am a recent graduate from the math education program at Northern Illinois University. My certificate is a Type 09 and I am certified to teach grade levels 6-12. I am available to tutor students looking for help with ACT/SAT math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus (basic, regular, honors for all areas).
I completed my student teaching experience at Jane Addams Junior High in Schaumburg, IL. I was responsible for teaching 3 sections of 8th grade Advanced Algebra (a high school class in the junior high) and 2 sections of lower level Algebra. I was given the opportunity to work one-on-one with students with special needs as well as honors students who needed that extra challenge. As well as middle and high school students, I have also had the opportunity to tutor college level Algebra students. I consider myself to be a very student-centered educator and will stop at nothing until the student comprehends the material at hand. I believe in a hands on education and this will show through my tutoring and teaching. I teach by example. While working with your student, I will first explain the material (or problem), walk them through an example or two, have them talk me through a problem with the proper guidance, and then have them try problems on their own.
I am currently employed at South Elgin High School running their math lab. The math lab is an in-school tutoring program the high school has in place. I am a very experienced tutor and absolutely love helping students gain the confidence for math they desire through one on one help.
I understand not every student learns the same way and have chosen to embrace this fact. I have been trained by some of the best instructors on how to relate material to students to make them understand more clearly. I will try multiple ways to help your student comprehend and feel comfortable with the material. I am a very energetic and positive person who truly enjoys teaching. I am looking forward to getting to know your student and to help them become life long learners in and out of the classroom.
