Hello! Hola! Bonjour! I am a high school and community college teacher with 32 years in the classroom teaching Spanish, French, and English as a Second Language. My approach is interactive. Acquiring a second language involves all the senses so my students are active participants in their own learning.

If you're a struggling student who needs one-on-one attention, I'm very patient and I've developed strategies to help you. If you're preparing to take an AP language test or a placement test at your college, I will give you the intensive review you need. If English is your second language, I can improve your academic English skills as well as develop a program for individualized workplace English.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have a B.A. in French and Spanish and taught both languages at the high school level for 32 years. My classroom experience ranges from beginning level to advanced honors classes.

My M.A. is in Linguistics with TOESL. I taught ESL and I was the building coordinator for an English Language Learners program in a suburban high school. Presently, I teach English as a Second Language at a community college and I teach Curriculum and Instruction classes at a local university for teachers seeking certification classes in ELL.

French

I graduated from college with a major in foreign languages. French was one of the two languages I studied. My coursework included studying in Paris as part of a program offered by my university. Subsequently, as a high school teacher of French, I led many groups of students on spring break and summer trips to France. I not only love the language, I enjoy reading anything about French history, especially the revolutionary period in eighteenth century France.

Spanish

As a college student, I had a double major--French and Spanish. In my career as a high school foreign language teacher, I taught both languages over the years, and I took students on spring and summer excursions to Europe where Spain was always on our itinerary. I feel strongly that students need to expand their studies beyond the walls of a school building.
Additionally, I used Spanish in my role as the ELL building coordinator and ELL parent coordinator at my high school. I often translated materials and served as an interpreter at meetings. I continue to work in a mentoring program at my former high school and have many interactions with Hispanic families. For the last eight years, I have taught English at a community college to literacy students who are predominately Spanish speaking.
