I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University in May 2014. I am a firm believer that every child has the right and ability to make further progress to meet their individual needs and goals. I have taken many courses in teaching children math, science, social studies, and how to read and write. Along with these courses, I have also taken courses in inclusion and teaching English as a Second Language. I would love to put my skills and knowledge to good use to help students achieve their potential!

I am licensed through the state of Illinois to teach grades K-9. Northern Illinois University recognizes me as "Highly Qualified" in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, and Math for K-9. I had clinical placements in a third grade bilingual classroom, a general education fifth grade classroom, a year-long student teaching experience in a sixth grade social studies classroom, and tutored a sixth grade EAL student for one semester.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am licensed through the state of Illinois to teach grades K-9. Northern Illinois University recognizes me as "Highly Qualified" in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, and Math for K-9. I had clinical placements in a third grade bilingual classroom, a general education fifth grade classroom, a year-long student teaching experience in a sixth grade social studies classroom, and tutored a sixth grade EAL student for one semester.

Handwriting

I have had exposure to teaching handwriting to students during my clinical experience in a third grade bilingual classroom. I have experience with the D'Nealian style as well as cursive. I also have some experience with the Zaner Bloser style.

Political Science

When I started college I was originally a history major, which required many political science courses. Additionally, I am endorsed to teach middle school Social Studies, which was possible through coursework in Political Science. I have completed many Political Science courses through Elmhurst College, like Urban Politics, as well as Law and Government, and classes that dealt with political issues in South America.

Social Studies

I did my student teaching assignment in a 6th grade social studies classroom. I was involved in assessment, teaching, and planning lessons. I can teach social studies at the grade school level and am endorsed to teach it at the middle school level.

Study Skills

I tutored an ESL student once a week for a semester to help him with his homework, which included study skills. I also created a lesson plan to teach sixth graders study skills. During my student teaching experience, I also worked with special needs students to help them strengthen their study skills.

Writing

To complete my degree in Elementary Education, I was required to take classes on teaching Kindergarten-9th grade writing. I frequently observed a 6th grade Literacy class during my student teaching. I have also had direct experience with the 6+1 Traits of Writing.
