Teaching has always been my passion. I have taught English and writing for five years. I have taught both freshman and seniors. Throughout those five years, I have had practice integrating ACT work into daily lessons, along with teaching the art of college personal statements. I have done extensive teaching of letter writing, college essays, persuasive writing, creative writing, literature analysis, quote identification/analysis, vocabulary, reading strategies, and comprehension. I am currently getting my masters degree in Special Education. I should finish my masters in the summer of 2013.
I truly believe that teaching can be fun and that all students have the ability to learn from any situation. Students that I tutor will be expected to work hard and not expect the answers to be given to them. Rather, I will work with the student to ensure that they are learning the given concept for future use. I enjoy using real world examples to tie the material to situations that the student is familiar with. I can help with homework, studying for tests or various skills to improve overall knowledge of a subject. Tutoring can be completed at any time during the days and on the weekends. I encourage parents to ask questions often about how their student is progressing within the tutoring sessions and any concerns that they have about their student's success.
I have taught a multitude of novels including plays, classic novels and modern novels. Comprehension, analysis and higher lever thinking are stressed within my teaching.
I also have four years of experience teaching writing to seniors in high school. Subject include college essays, persuasive writing, and creative writing.
Throughout my time teaching I have taught different levels of texts to my students. I am familiar with many of the texts being read within the high school curriculum. I can help students with comprehension, analysis, higher level thinking questions and essay writing.
I taught writing classes for four years where I have proofread many high school papers. I focus on asking students questions so that I am not simply giving the student the correct method to fix the problem. The key to proofreading properly is to discuss the corrections and how to ensure that one can use that skill properly in the future.
