I started my collegiate music studies at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL as a trumpet major and completed a Bachelor of Music degree in commercial music from Millikin University, Decatur, IL as a voice major. I come from a family of teachers and I'm passionate about music. I wish to play a significant part in the instruction of music and music education. Another interest of mine includes songwriting.

I am an ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), songwriter and publisher and the owner of Gold Thumb Music Publishing.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Music

I studied Music Theory/Composition at the University of Miami and hold a bachelor of music degree from Millikin University in commercial music. I am an active songwriter.

Piano

During my collegiate studies, I was required to complete four semesters of "class piano." In addition to that, I studied piano privately for an additional year. I have become proficient in piano because I do my songwriting at the piano.

Songwriting

Although I've dabbled in writing since age 10, I didn't copyright my first "official" song until I was in college. I attended the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL) as a Music Theory & Composition major. I completed a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music from Millikin University. I am a current member of the Chicago Songwriters Collective and SongsAlive! Beginning this Friday, June 22nd, I am part of a small group of songwriters (Contemporary Christian Song Circle) who will meet regularly in an effort to perform, critique, learn and excel in the craft of songwriting. I have submitted original songs for a variety of contests, including Central Elementary School (local), Folgers jingle contest, Nashville Song Service, Contemporary Christian Music Network International (CCMNI) and USA Songwriting Competition. I've also had songs performed at auditions with Chicago's Top Voice, the X-Factor and The Voice.

Swimming

I was a competitive swimmer through high school as well as on the collegiate level (Division III). I am currently an active swimmer preparing for a distance swim from Sicily to Italy. My primary stroke is free style (the crawl), and I have good form in butterfly and backstroke.

Trumpet

I started studying trumpet at age 9. I played through high school as well, and began my collegiate music studies as a music education major; trumpet principal. Although I became a voice major, I still actively pursue trumpet performances. I perform regularly at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, IL and have been hired for memorial celebrations in remembering 911. Since I don't have a sample, I offer my first lesson free of charge.

Voice (Music)

I have studied music since fourth grade and hold a bachelor of music degree with emphasis in voice from Millikin University.
