Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have 44 years of classroom experience teaching ESL to high school and adult continuing education students. I also have the ESL endorsement for my Illinois Teaching Certificate and 18 graduate hours in Linguistics from Northeastern Illinois University.

Study Skills

I am a retired high school teacher, and am experienced in teaching study skills, including outlining, test-taking strategies, effective exam review techniques, and strategies to build self-confidence and self-esteem in one's own abilities.

I can also assist with creating a proper study environment, and I bring 44 years of experience with these techniques.
