Education:
I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My major was accountancy. In addition, I completed most of my premedical course work from U of I. I will be enrolled in medical school in August of 2013.
Tutoring experience:
I tutored for two years at the University of Illinois in organic chemistry and accountancy. I have acquired cadaver tutoring when I tutored at Oakton Community College for a year in Anatomy & Physiology. For the past two years, I have been a private tutor and have worked with students aged 13 to 47. When I work with the younger students, I make sure to communicate their progress with their parents. Recently, I have worked closely with five high school math students to increase comprehension and grades resulting in an average of 1.2 point increase in GPA. I enjoy working effectively with students with diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds.
My tutoring methods:
When I first meet a potential student, I do a diagnosis of their skills by creating a short test so I can determine what they have mastered, what they may need to review and what they don't yet know at all. Once I have assessed their skill level, I share that information with my student. While pointing out weaknesses may be easier, I believe it's important to motivate my student by showing their strengths as well. I always make it a point in my conversation with my students to keep them updated about their level or progress and to always end on a high note so they feel good about what they've accomplished so far.
I have also taken the LSAT as well as the MCAT and I can offer assistance to those students that are pursuing medicine or law school.
Please reach out to me and let me know what areas you need assistance with and I would be happy to explain complex concepts using easy-to-understand terms.
