I've been involved in photography as a serious hobbyist and semi-pro for over 35 years. I began doing black and white photography and developing the photos in darkroom, and since the digital photography revolution, I've been using Adobe's Lightroom since version 1.0. I started working with digital photography in 1999, and have owned and operated a wide variety of digital cameras, including an assortment of DSLR's and the latest mirrorless cameras. I enjoy all types and aspects of photography, from sports to nature.

I firmly believe that the best way to learn photography is to actually do it! I'm light on lecturing, and heavy on actual practice. Same with post-processing photos with Adobe's Lightroom software. Plus I can show you how to organize and archive digital photos, so that you'll be able to access them for years to come. And if you would like to be able to print your own photos, we can do that as well, using Lightroom.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Macintosh

I am a desktop support specialist who has been working with desktop computers of all types since 1990, but mostly Windows PC's in corporate and governmental environments. Starting in 2007, I began working for a school district that several hundred Mac's that they were using, and so I ended up purchasing an iMac for myself, and have been using an iMac as my primary home computer for the past five years. Between supporting the Mac's at the district, and my own efforts learning all about the MacIntosh on my own time, I feel quite confident to help others learn the basics of this type of computer. Often times when I'm teaching and assisting people with digital photography and Adobe products, I'm also having to end up teaching them how to use their own Mac's as well! Might as well put this knowledge to good use, helping others to get up and running with their new Mac's.

Microsoft Windows

I have been a desktop support specialist since 1990, originally supporting desktop PC's running MS-DOS 3.0! I was working for the Air Force, and helped to spearhead a transition from DOS to Windows 3.0 (and 3.1) when they became popular in 1992-93, and have been working to support Windows computers and users ever since. Even at home, I have computers running Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8.1. I have just recently completed professional support training on Windows 8.1 provided by New Horizons in Chicago, and I'm currently working towards getting an MCSA in Windows 8.

Photography

I have been a hobbyist photographer for nearly forty years. Since 2011, I've become a semi-professional photographer, mainly working sporting events, but hope to soon branch out into portrait photography. In 1999 I bought my very first digital camera, and in 2007 my very first DSLR. Since that time I've amassed a collection of digital and film cameras of all types. I keep up to date on all the latest trends in digital photography, and can certainly help with all aspects of the that type of photography, from taking the photo, to uploading it to a computer (or smart phone!) to displaying the finished results either printed, or posted on the Internet.

Great Tutor — Ron was amazing. I truly lucked out. I couldn't have asked for anyone better. We immediately hit it off. He was patient, conscientious, fun, knowledgeable, passionate about photography, explained everything clearly, had a great speaking voice, and was a great tech person helping me get photos from I-photo to LR. I am so glad I have him in the wings to nurture my budding photography aspirations ...
