My name is Liz W. and I love to teach! I offer tutoring for all subjects for grades Pre-K through 8 and high school English, but I especially enjoy teaching struggling readers of all ages. I have a B.A. in English from Rutgers University and a Masters of Education Degree from East Stroudsburg University. I am an IL Certified Special Education Teacher for grades K-12 and I hold Endorsements for H.S. Language Arts, Learning Behavior Specialist I, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Retardation. After working in the public school system as a Learning Disabilities Resource Teacher and Inclusion Specialist, I have home schooled my own 5 children for the past 15 years. In addition to teaching my children at home in all subjects, I have also tutored other children and taught classes at our home school cooperatives which included high school Shakespeare, middle school literature & poetry, and elementary reading, science, math, and art.
I really enjoy getting kids excited about learning and helping them to be successful. I love how different they are from each other and enjoy getting to know them and how they learn best. For me, that is part of the challenge and joy of teaching! I have experience working with children with many different "disabilities" and "abilities" and love to present material in a creative way that is meaningful to them. My reading instruction is based on Orton-Gillingham methods and all subjects are taught using direct instruction.
