I am a PhD Chemistry Faculty member at various colleges in the Chicagoland area. I currently teach college level general chemistry. I have tutored throughout my education in group settings and one-on-one sessions. I have also taught upper level chemistry courses at the college level.

During my education I earned multiple awards and honors as a chemistry student. I also graduated in the top 10% of my college. I continued onto graduate school and worked as a teaching assistant for 2 years while continuing tutoring to students that needed more help.

After graduating from graduate school I taught at a University in general chemistry and an upper level course. After that, I moved to the Chicagoland area and began teaching at various community colleges.

I approach teaching and tutoring with the goal of understanding. I achieve this through examples and relating difficult topics to real world examples. Also, I understand the need to bridge the gap between the science of chemistry and the need for math for many of the problems that will be encountered. I know what is necessary to pass chemistry and I can get students to that level. I will break topics down so that they are understandable and we can build on that. I begin working through examples with students and build up so they can solve the problems without my assistance. Lastly, I will bring excitement to the world of chemistry.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra expands upon prealgebra. Graphing and understanding line equations, solving for variables, understanding proportions, and polynomials and factors are some of the topics covered. This course is generally one of the basic maths required for many subjects.

Chemistry

Chemistry is the study of matter which is all around us. It makes up everything we touch, breathe, and use. There are many topics in chemistry and many tools to use. There is a need for math proficiency for many of the problems you will encounter. Fortunately, there is a useful tool that will help guide us through many of the relationships and trends learned; the periodic table. Some of the topics in this course are: acids and bases, equilibrium, gas laws, atomic theory, nuclear chemistry, and chemical quantities. This is a useful class to take for anyone wishing to go into a scientific career.

Prealgebra

Mathematics operations prior to taking Algebra. Topics include proper working of calculations, sing proportions, solving linear equations, and the use of exponents.
