Greetings,
My name is Evan. I was a student at the University of Illinois at Chicago studying Biomedical Engineering. I graduated from Whitney M. Young high school, one of the leading high schools in Chicago. I was a part of their Academic Decathlon team, a prestigious academic competition in ten different subjects encompassing Math, Music, Economics, Science, History, Art, Literature, Speech, Interview, and Super Quiz. I helped our team go to the National finals and win many awards.
Outside of engineering, I also pursue a side career in music composition. I was raised on classical music and more contemporary music from the 50's, 60's, and I do keep up with current hits too. My forte is using classical music theory in compositions that reach further than just the classical genre.
My favorite subjects to learn and to teach are Math, Music, and Computers. These three are my absolute passion and I would love to help others with these subjects as well.
I love teaching others; I teach my friends whenever they need help grasping and understanding something, or just a friendly helping hand. I'm very sociable and easy to get along with. As I'm very interested in a wide variety of topics within and outside of the subjects, I find it easy to engage those I'm teaching into the subject. I like explaining the subject at hand in a manner most familiar to the student, even explaining it in terms of other subjects that they are stronger at.
I am quite hands on when I am teaching. I like to give a lot of examples and also have the student try out a lot of examples themselves. I don't like to give up, and I don't give up on any of my students. I find that encouragement, supportive commentary, and praise are all essential and useful in the learning process, as it helps maintain the student's self esteem and also keeps them motivated and interested in the subjects.
I have worked with students of many ages with many different aims. The range spans 8 year-olds just starting to get their first grasp on math and reading concepts, to 60 year-olds who want to expand their horizons. I have an infinite patience and love for helping people learn.
I look forward to speaking with you, and I hope that we will work together well for the goal of better knowledge.
Thank you. Have a wonderful day.
