My name is Lena and I have been a teacher, math
lead teacher, tutor, and administrator for 20 years. My education history
includes a Bachelor's in Elementary Education
from Loyola University, including endorsements in Math, Science, English
, and Social Studies
. My Master's is from Roosevelt University and my Bilingual/ESL certificate is from Western Governor's University. Currently I teach English as a Second Language
to adult immigrants.
I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since I was six years old. Regardless of how each year passes, every day is a learning experience for me to grow and I wish to share this with others.
I enjoy working with individual students with academic and motivation issues, confidence in school, study skills
, organizational skills
, adjusting to different learning environments, and believing that learning how to learn is a vital and powerful tool. I also work with the family unit so that skills learned will provide long term results for continued success.
I do not have a tutoring office, so any quiet place is fine. I actually prefer working in the environment where the student will be regularly studying/doing homework. I am flexible in tutoring times, including weekends. I provide a free consultation session so that we can work together to create achievable goals. In addition to school work assigned, I may provide extra practice materials and assessments to monitor growth. After each session, I encourage feedback from students/parents so that I can make adjustments for ultimate success.
