I began assisting at Kranzten Studios back in 1981. After working 50-60 hour work weeks I was put on camera and never assisted after that. For the next several years I Freelanced as a photographer in the Chicago land area.
In 1988 I helped open Calumet Photgraphic in Chicago. I was with them for 26 years until they closed their doors in March of 2014.
In worked in the sales dept. as well as the rental dept. I spent the last 15 years in the rental dept. What better way to get all the new equipment into your hands to try out? My experience includes working with all formats, portable as well as studio lighting and grip.
I have taught one on one classes at Calumet as well as other beginners that have contacted me for help as well.
As long as you are willing to learn and have an open mind and willing to find the answer instead of having it given to you that is the first step in learning.
