I have always had a true love for learning. There is nothing more wonderful than the expansion of one's knowledge. However, learning things these days can sometimes be a stressful and seemingly impossible task to do alone. Well, not only can I promise you that you don't have to do it alone, I'm convinced that it can also be fun. I would love to have an opportunity to help more people discover the joy of education. My target ages for teaching is 5-13 although I am not completely opposed to working with an older audience. My areas of interest include Writing, Spelling, and Reading. I have a patience for young people that isn't found in many today. I am also open to working with special needs minors for no extra charge. If given the opportunity to tutor, I assure you that you will not regret it.
I am currently a student of Loyola University Chicago and a Communications Major. Students do not have to come to me. If it is not possible for students to make it to my home which is located on the south side of Chicago in the Washington Park neighborhood, I am more than willing to make arrangements for tutoring sessions to happen downtown in the Harold Washington Library or Loyola University's Water Tower Campus which is located near 1 E Pearson. If all other arrangements fail I will come to you. I have been in AP Literature and AP Composition and writing throughout high school, but I have had a passion for these subjects for quite some time. Please allow me to share all what I learned with you.
All of my tutoring experiences have been working with students from kindergarten to 8th grade. In elementary and middle school I often acted as the teachers assistant, helping students that the teacher couldn't get to right away. I also participated in after school programs tutoring children that had fallen behind in their classes, all of which happened on a volunteer basis. Working with children is my comfort zone. It requires a certain kind of patience, understanding, passion and unprejudiced care that I believe I possess.
I have a passion for writing and as a result of that I had to study English intensely. English is a very crucial part of the writing process. I am happy to say that my involvement in multiple AP courses have allowed me to excel in this subject and score a 27 on the English portion of the ACT. I would love to share my knowledge of English with you.
Reading and reading comprehension have always been important subjects for me. I spent my first two years of high school bringing characters to life by participating in Teen Volume's Readers Theater program. We would take popular children's books, turn them into skits and perform them in libraries across Chicago with the goal of inspiring children and teens to read more, proving that learning can be fun.
Spelling is perhaps one of the most difficult subjects for children to learn. It takes a lot of time, patience, and dedication, which to a younger person might sound boring. This is why it is important to use a method of teaching that will keep a students interested while at the same time retaining the seriousness of studying. It is possible, and I have methods that do so successfully.
For as long as I could remember I have been interested in words and their meanings. In elementary school I developed a keen interest in etymology and studied it greatly. Today, I am often accused of being a sesquipedalian (one who likes to use big words), and I love it.
Writing is my passion. I have been awarded for my writing as a child in the Young Authors program, and I have also been featured in WCIU's Green Screen Adventures series. I continued my education in composition throughout high school in advanced placement classes, and now I would love to share my skills with you.
