I'm a newly certified CELTA teacher and recent college graduate moving to the Chicago area, looking to tutor high school and college students in the area. I'm excited at the prospect of teaching and helping individual learners achieve their best, academically. My experience with tutoring covers a wide range of scenarios: I've tutored fellow students in French while studying in college, and have also led study sessions throughout my undergraduate degree. Before college, while living in Brazil, I taught English to young children at my local English school. And most recently, I've tutored illiterate adults in the Milwaukee area.
Beyond my experience tutoring, I also bring a unique perspective to teaching with my extensive experience studying foreign language myself. I'm very familiar with the process of learning a language from the student perspective, and therefore really empathize with my students. Furthermore, I know how to put a student at ease so they feel comfortable enough to practice with unfamiliar language, or with a subject they're struggling with.
I believe that my role as a teacher is to create an accommodating learning environment, so that the student can focus on what they need to learn, and the teacher can be a resource for the student. I do this in several ways- working directly with the student to figure out their learning style and needs, and then also adapting material to meet the needs of the student. I will work with any learner to develop a tutoring curriculum that focuses in on the problem areas with the student. I'll do this by talking with the learner, and working outside our sessions to find materials that will help the learner progress as needed. As your tutor, I'll work diligently to make sure I'm providing the attention and resources you need.
