As a former professor and director of student learning centers, I have extensive experience teaching science, writing, and public speaking to students at the undergraduate and graduate school levels. If you're having trouble learning in these areas, I'm confidant that I can help you master the material and meet your educational goals.

Sometimes, students need tools to help them organize their study time. This is especially important when prepping for major exams like the GRE, MCAT, and SAT. You must also know who to manage feelings of anxiety and overwhelm that interfere with studying and can sabotage your performance on the exam. To help with these challenges I always teach students some time management and stress management exercises, so that when our session is over you'll have confidence that you're going to succeed.

During my career, I've been a full-time college professor and director of two student support centers at graduate schools. I've taught biology, critical thinking, environmental science, microbiology, and other courses to hundreds of students. And I've helped many students to improve their writing and public speaking skills through one-on-one consultations, group presentations, and online courses. If you're committed to learning and improving your skills, I have the tools and experience you need to improve.

If you're looking for someone who will take a personal interest in supporting you in your learning, please contact me today.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have always enjoyed tutoring in algebra, a subject which I really enjoyed as a student. I can explain things in simple language and so help students to understand the concepts. My easy-going style helps nervous students to relax, concentrate, and learn.

Algebra 2

I love algebra, got straight A's in algebra as a student, and have helped many people to understand it. In helping others, I work with them to help them learn algebra, giving them tips and tricks to make it easy to learn. I also help them learn tools that help them organize their work, so it's easy to double-check their answers when they're done.

Biochemistry

I have a doctorate in biochemistry with a specialization in protein chemistry. I have taught biochemistry at the graduate school level and have tutored students in biochemistry and biology. My experience as a research biochemist give me many good anecdotes and examples of how biochemistry is relevant to everyone.

Biology

My undergraduate degree is in biology and I have taught freshman biology for almost ten years. I have researched subjects in cell biology, cancer biology, and radiation biology, so my knowledge is well-rounded. I like to use hands-on tools and examples in my teaching so that all kinds of learners can grasp the concepts easily.

English

I have been teaching students how to improve their English for over 15 years. I am familiar with the challenges they face in learning to write clear, organized, grammatically correct essays and I enjoy helping them learn. I am experienced in working on writing on many levels, from grammar and word choice to the organization of complex research papers. If you are looking for someone who can help you improve your English, I hope you will contact me today.

Geometry

I enjoy geometry and find it easy to help others learn how to think about and solve geometry problems. If anxiety about math makes learning geometry harder, I teach exercises to manage stress and anxiety. There's no reason that a student should not be able to learn geometry.

GRE

As a former graduate student, I am familiar with the importance of the GRE and the need to score well on it. As a former director of student learning centers, I have experience helping students prepare for major exams like the GRE and I know I can help you too. Whether you need help with the material, someone to motivate you, or someone to help you create a study plan, I can help.

MCAT

As a former pre-med student, who decided to get a doctorate in biochemistry instead of going to medical school, I am familiar with the MCAT curriculum and all the subjects it tests. As a former professor and director of student learning centers, I am great at helping students prepare for standardized tests. I therefore think that I would be a very good MCAT tutor. Sometimes, the student doesn't need help with the material, so much as help creating a study plan. That is also something I've helped many students to develop.

Physical Science

Physical science is when we start to learn about how the world works. I use examples from everyday life to help students see how what they are learning in physical science relates to their daily life in the city. And I make learning fun by using drawing, modeling, and other activities to reinforce the learning.

Public Speaking

I have been helping students with public speaking for over 15 years. Usually, anxiety is the number one issue and I teach centering techniques to help students handle their nerves. As a teacher, I have taught many students how to design effective PowerPoint presentations. And I have also taught advanced PowerPoint to faculty. What's more, I have worked with many college and grad school students on presentation skills. To improve my own skills, I joined Toastmasters for a time. I bring many tips and years of experience to this work.

Writing

I am an experienced and skilled writer who has expertise in many styles of writing, from creative essays to research papers. As a professor and director of a student learning center, I have been helping students improve their writing for over 15 years. I work in a student-centered way that empowers the student and helps them learn the skills they need.
