I majored in English Rhetoric (grammar/composition) and minored in Communication at the University of Alaska.

While a student, I was a senior member of the highly competitive Seawolf Speech and Debate team and co-founded the complementary (non-competitive) student club. I was a Teaching Assistant for an upper-division Debate and Deliberation class for one semester.

After graduation, I was invited to be the Assistant Debate Coach for the UAA competitive team in 2012. In addition, I have traveled to China twice as an adjudicator and mentor to English speaking Chinese university students at their most elite tournaments, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Cup in Beijing and the IDEA-XISU in Xian. I was also an adjudicator at 2007 World University's Debate Championships held in Vancouver, Canada.
