Thank you for your interest on my lessons. I enjoy working with children aged 5 and up and have had wonderful adult students. I have been playing the piano for about 25 years now, and earned doctoral degree for piano performance.
~About my piano lessons~
From the very beginners, I teach the real piano playing. Piano lessons shouldn't be about learning how to read and hit the correct notes, but learning how to play beautifully. Mastering a good posture, knowing how to play one short phrase in good musical shape, intonation are necessary for natural, and expressive playing. I hope all of my students have a great relationship with music throughout their lives and enjoy playing for people.
For beginners lessons, I typically use Faber's Piano Adventures series as a method book with combination of other materials. This series also offers a course for adult students. For advanced students, I advice about the repertoire. I play the "standard" historical repertoire, and also love Russian composers such as Rachmaninoff, Medtner, Prokofiev, etc.
I also have an experience to have taught theory, ear training, and sight-singing class. I can help you or your child to develop deeper understanding of music.
Besides teaching piano, I enjoy playing solo and collaborating with other musicians in the Chicago area.
~About my voice lessons~
Singing has been my big passion. As a kid, I dreamed to be an opera singer without exactly knowing what opera is. I started taking voice lessons as my minor study in high school and it continued through my undergrad. My repertoire includes classical art songs, opera arias, and musical songs in Broadway style. In your voice lessons, you will be accompanied by me!
I look forward to hearing from you.
I have a doctoral degree for piano performance from Michigan State University. I played a solo recital at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in 2011. I have been playing the piano for more than 25 years. I have been a piano instructor at Zen Music Center, New York Music and Arts, and New York Summer Music Festival.
