I graduated from the University of Chicago with a PhD in physics in 2011, specializing in experimental particle physics. My background in teaching includes being a teaching assistant (TA) teaching basic 1st year undergraduate physics. However, my expertise involves various fields.
My education in physics includes subjects typically taught at an advanced (AP) high school and undergraduate level. These include: classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and quantum mechanics.
Mathematics education includes calculus at the undergraduate level: both single and multi-variate, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and algebra. These subjects are a necessary foundation for physics. For example, the calculus of vector fields is necessary to understand how electric and magnetic fields behave.
My undergraduate degrees are in both physics and astronomy; I graduate from the University of Maryland (College Park) with degrees in both subjects.
Probability and statistics:
Particle physics research is mostly statistical data analysis. Thus, I am thoroughly versed in statistics topics such as fitting, chi-square testing, and hypothesis testing.
After completing my PhD, I worked for two years at a hedge fund in Chicago. Here my work experience was with mostly linear regression and time-series analysis. These were performed using the R statistical language. In addition, I became family with basic options mathematics.
From the above work I have knowledge of C/C++, python, perl, and R, as well as general knowledge of bash and linux/UNIX.
I have a background in physics, specifically a PhD in the subject. As a result I took linear algebra during college. In addition, most of the mathematics encountered in quantum physics is linear algebra. As a result, I am familiar with the material in order to tutor students in the subject matter.
