I'm a native speaker of both Arabic and English, as I went to both Arabic and English
schools as a child, grew up in the Middle East, and my mother is American (so we spoke
both English and Arabic at home). I've been tutoring Arabic since late 2012, and have
taught two private classes so far. I've also taught English to Arabic-speaking adults in the
past, in both private and group settings. As for teaching children, I've volunteered for a
year with Open Books' literary program, meeting with students one-on-one to boost
reading skills, on a weekly basis.
During these sessions, I picked books based on each child's interests, and used methods
that appealed to them. As for tutoring Arabic, I also tailor the class towards each student's
individual needs and preferred ways of
learning. Usually I teach both fusHa/classical Arabic and the Egyptian dialect, and
incorporate reading, conversational skills, and vocabulary building.
I currently live and work downtown, and usually hold my classes at a cafe, or in the library
if preferred. However, I'm also willing to travel within the city, but don't have a car so
prefer locations on public transport routes.
