I am a graduate of North Central College with a diverse range of experiences through the Musical Theatre and Psychology programs. As a musical theater performer, I have been trained in communication, movement, dance, technical production, musical comprehension and vocal performance and have taught theater for two summers at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Through the study of psychology, I have expanded my knowledge of interpersonal communication and behavioral relations during both coursework and in running an independent study on the structure of memory recall. This particular study was presented at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research and later influenced the development and creation of an original self-written theatrical production.
Other interests developed over my collegiate years included improvisation skills as well as photography and Photoshop.
Prior to collegiate study, I performed as a part of a local show choir and in high school productions exploring various styles including swing and latin dancing. Through a musical theatre program in college, I had formal training in jazz, ballet, musical theater, and tap. Throughout these eight years of education, I choreographed and performed in dance recitals adding the styles of waltz, contemporary, and hip hop to my repertoire of experience.
As a musical theater performer with a degree from a liberal arts institution, I had a variety of collegiate courses focusing on talking in front of crowds of varying size. Along with classwork, I have had frequent experience on stage and behind a microphone as an actor, singer, and emcee for local events. Public speaking is a skill that takes time to gradually adjust comfort level to an audience and therefore personal attention may abide in this transition.
During both my high school and secondary education, I performed as an actor in approximately 16 school productions. Throughout my study in the Musical Theatre program and as a worker of Production Staff at North Central College, I added experience in technical productions working with set building, light operation, sound operation, properties design, publicity, multimedia operation, and assistant stage management. As a conclusion of my first stage of education, I directed a self-written original theatrical production entitled "A Story of Us". Outside of my formal training, I gained exposure to children's theatre as a President/ Director/ Actor for Red Bike Performance Company, worked as an understudy for American Theatre Company's revisal production of "columbinus", and spent two summers in Michigan teaching an introductory course at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
