Dear Prospective Student,
Are you having trouble learning the difference between meiosis and mitosis? Do you need a simplified way of learning the material your teacher went over today in class? Or perhaps you have a final project that is due tomorrow and you haven't even started on it? Whatever it may be, I am here to help in the best way that I can.
As a science teacher, I believe in being able to learn by having something in front of you that you can actually get your hands on and work with. Therefore my lessons consist of activities that aid you in understanding the big picture.
Through my experience as a chemistry teacher, I have learned that many students struggle because they are visual learners and they themselves don’t know this yet. Therefore, if we have a tutoring session together, be prepared for hands-on activities to get your brain working. I won’t expect you to memorize the material, instead I would expect you to learn it! I would also adjust to your level and speed and assess your learning with short quizzes.
I graduated from Dominican University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and a minor in the study of women and gender. I have also recently passed the exam to receive a type 029 transitional teaching certificate as well as the exam to receive an endorsement in health education. The type 029 certificate will allow me to teach bilingual education in both Spanish and English.
The following are qualities that I have and that I believe any exceptional educator should also have.
Exceptional educators have the ability to relate to their students to build strong, long-lasting relationships. This is very necessary as it will make or break the student’s ability to learn and comprehend the material.
Exceptional educators also possess the ability to have a lesson well planned out a week in advance and make the necessary adjustments at the same instant it is being taught depending on the flow and understanding of the student.
Exceptional educators have the ability to bring out the best in every student, especially in those who have issues with self-confidence.
