Hello, my name is Randy R. and I am a CPA. I live in Portage Park and also own a condo in the 6000 block of N Sheridan Road a few blocks south of the main Loyola University Campus located in Rogers Park. I am looking for accounting students and clients that need help and assistance with accounting, auditing, managerial accounting, budgeting, forecasting, business modeling and organizational management and preparation for their CPA, Series 7 and 3 Nasdaq licenses.
I presently perform organizational management, financial, accounting and Excel consulting engagements. I tutor because I enjoy helping accounting students/clients excel in their courses and understanding of accounting and financial markets at alll levels.
I started tutoring college students and individuals studying for their CPA examination when I was in Chicago on my organizational management and financial consulting practice. At that time, I was living in Seattle and had three major centers of business practice (Seattle where a majority of my family still lives; Chicago where our son lives and Baltimore where I had several clients). I expanded tutoring to Seattle before we moved to Chicago to be close to our son. I now tutor primarily in the Chicago area and consult across the country.
I received my BA studies from the University of Puget Sound located in Tacoma Washington graduating Magna Cum Laude and with accounting/finance departmental honors before I moved on to my MBA studies at Seattle University.
I was only 1 of 3 accounting students from a graduating class of 65 that were hired by the Big 4 International CPA accounting offices. My Big 4 accounting experience focused on auditing, individual taxations and on-site organizational management and profitability engagements. The Big 4 experience was followed by joining a very large regional CPA office where we focused on auditing, write up work, organizational management engagements including profitability analysis, enhancement projects and individual and company tax returns and planning.
I have evaluated, trained and hired accounting and management personnel at all levels in many organizations across the country including controllers and chief financial officers. I have extensive hands on experiences with many industries including software, database design/implementation, not for profit, banking, mortgage banking, real estate, residential/commercial building including land development, collections, securities/trading, NASDQ series 7, 3 and 63 licensing and more. My prior consulting experience covers individuals up to companies generating $50MM in annual sales.
I am an excellent tutor, teacher, coach and consultant. I will be happy to assist you achieve your goals in any of your accounting related courses.

Before Randy, finance was a bunch of gibberish for me. Randy helped me understand, appreciate and even apply accounting in my full-time work. Because of him, I have been able to participate in my grad school class and in my study group. Every session adds value to my understanding of accounting. Very highly recommended.
As a CPA with a wide range of multi-level accounting experiences, Randy has strong command of the practical knowledge and applications to greatly enhance the learning of his students throughout all areas of accounting.
Style-wise, he is conversational and patient with students. He takes the time to explain accounting concepts and help translate them into usable tools. Moreover, he is sensitive to what is relevant ahead of time, improving the learning curve. This comes from years of study and practicing in relevant fields. He consistently checks in on student understanding. Overall, his knowledgeable, personable, reliable, responsive, and thorough approaches help his students meet their range of goals. In summary, I highly recommend Randy for students looking to elevate their learning throughout the full scope in the field of accounting.
I am currently a sophomore at the University of Washington, enrolled in Accounting 215. I am taking this class as a prerequisite for the Foster Business School Sales Certificate Program and was struggling with the basics of the course material. Randy provided a spreadsheet breaking down the basics of accounting and phrased it in much simpler terms. His assistance in the preparation for my first midterm, working on practice problems, and solving homework questions was incredibly helpful! He was very patient and a great tutor!
My schedule is tight and Randy has been flexible. The notes he has provided me with are good references for future use. I would recommend his services to any accounting student. His knowledge of accounting is excellent and he puts it together like magic. Then he backs it up with learning tools. His style of teaching leaves behind memorable applicable skills.
Randy is so helpful and is able to explain difficult concepts in ways that actually make sense. He is very patient and encouraging! He is always so positive and I feel very comfortable asking questions whenever I need clarification. I would recommend Randy as he is also always accessible if you need to reach him at anytime to ask questions or schedule a tutoring session.
Randy is a true professional and totally knows his field. He's confident, patient and reliable. I'm taking an entrepreneurial accounting class and we've worked on various aspects of accounting from creating journals and spreadsheets to an assortment of accounting scenarios. He's always come through solid structure and steady perseverance. It's been a pleasure working with him. Thank you!
Randy has been a wonderful tutor assisting me in the basics of accounting. My managerial accounting class has been challenging and Randy is able to explain in simple verbiage basic accounting principles. Randy responded quickly to my request and met me later the same day. I am hopeful of passing this class and completing my degree with Randy as my patient tutor.
Randy was well prepared for my initial tutoring session. He had materials to show me and patiently went through the basics/fundamentals of accounting. He explanations are easy to follow, and I was able to apply our lesson with my Becker's CPA course.
I have never had someone so intent on assisting me in reaching my goal in understanding the principals of accounting. Randy is a mentor and coach in every aspect. He is a true professional who came prepared to teach! I had almost given up believing that these concepts would always go in one ear and out the other, but Randy did not tire on me, he simply did not give up. He observed my reactions to the techniques and materials he presented and without question sought ways to reach me so that I would understand.
Through his diligence I will be able to complete my class with confidence! Thank you Randy! I am very happy that I decided to persevere.
Randy was incredibly responsive. Came at a moments notice, very well prepared and got right to the heart of the topic very quickly. Completely knew the material and was excellent in imparting his expertise. Very highly recommended.
Randy has been such a great help with all my assignments. It seems that there is not much I throw at him that he doesn't know the answer to or is resourceful enough to find. He goes above and beyond any expectation of any tutor that I have had in the past. I appreciate all you have done for me.
Randy was more than patient with me while I struggled to understand the new concepts. He gave me some great advice about how to prepare for my exams going forward. It made a big difference! Thanks, Randy.
I am an older student working on an MBA to make a later in life career change. When my classmates speak about how long its been since they were last in school and the years are way less than a decade it makes me laugh and it makes me nervous. Randy's patience, experience, and depth of knowledge gives me the comfort of knowing that I have someone that I can communicate with when there are concepts and problems that I cannot solve on my own and my instructor is not making it clear for me. I highly recommend that anyone who needs assistance with complicated accounting and financial problems should contact Randy.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated with my BA degree in accounting Magna Cum Laude at the University of Puget Sound before attending Seattle University for my MBA studies. I was only one of three students from a class of 65 accounting majors to be hired by the big four international CPA accounting offices. Using my CPA certificate and acquired consulting talents, I have hired and trained all levels of accounting and bookkeeping personnel along with several controllers and chief financial officers for my clients over the years. I am an excellent teacher and coach specializing in CRM (client relationship management) software programs and all levels of training accounting, record keepers and finance personnel. Along with my CPA certification, I have held NASDQ 3, 7 and 63 series licenses allowing me to account for, trade and manage all types of securities, options and future contracts and instruments.
