Greetings aspiring guitar slingers!
My name is Chris and I am offering beginner/novice level rock & blues guitar lessons to aspiring students in the Chicago area. I am an experienced guitar player of 7 years and I am currently studying instrumental performance with some of the best instructors at the Columbia College of Chicago. I play several different styles of guitar, however I am beginning my teaching career by teaching what I know best and that's the classics! Rock, Rhythm and Blues. If you've ever wanted to learn how players like Jimmy Page, Santana, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Steve Cropper, Mike Bloomfield and others do what they do than I am the teacher for you! That being said, I am a music student and in my lesson plan I encourage students to initially present me with a list of songs of any style they wish to learn so that we may both transcribe them together.
My plan is to teach the student the way I learned; by learning their favorite songs and the essentials of guitar simultaneously! That way the student is having fun while learning the necessary skills to continue playing the instrument and enjoy it. That's the whole point, isn't it?! After first learning the basic open chords, I move on with the student to help them learn barre chords and the pentatonic scales for initial soloing (that's when it gets really fun!). I firmly believe with these basics that the student will gain a strong foundation in contemporary guitar playing.
Required Materials: A guitar, a guitar pick, a guitar amp, a guitar cable, a pencil and a notebook. I will provide a tuner (although a tuner is a necessary accessory for the student in the longterm), a metronome and my own teaching materials.
I am able to travel by way of the CTA however I do live in the Near North/River North Chicago area and I do possess two amps in the case it is more convenient to learn at my location.
