Hi I'm Melanie and I am passionate about photography as well as helping others. My passion for photography began my freshmen year in high school when my Art 1 teacher assigned my class a photography project. Not only did my teacher give us the opportunity to use the school's digital Canon point-and-shoot cameras, but also the opportunity to learn and practice the basic editing tools on Adobe Photoshop. Two years later, my Junior year, I took Honors Photography with the same teacher I had for Art 1. Taking Honors Photography really helped me learn the settings and functions of my camera, practice the principles and design elements of art, learn more about world famous photographers\artists, and further strengthen my photography skills. For my last year of high school, I took Advanced Placement 2-D Design which required a school years worth of building up a student portfolio to submit to the college board. I had already built a strong relationship with my photography teacher, so the AP course was less stressful for me. The class required experience with Adobe Photoshop, which I already had. I assisted many of my peers who were inexperienced with Photoshop. I can teach people how to use the basic editing tools on Photoshop to the more advanced levels of working with layers\filters\etc.
I am more familiar with the functions of a Canon DSLR camera. I have worked with Nikon, but Canon and Nikon differ in several ways. I can always try my best to assist with Nikon users, but I can help demonstrate the multiple functions that your camera may provide.
I am also an analogue camera fan. I have had experience using a darkroom to develop photographs, but I am by no means that experienced to teach darkroom development. I photograph with 35 mm film. I have about 19+ cameras total (still counting).
My senior year I also wanted to explore cinematography. I worked at the same computer lab for my AP Photography class, and used iMovie for editing. I have worked with the basic layout for iMovie and the advanced options available.
I have worked in a studio environment setting. I have used photography and cinematography equipment on occasion. I just can never stop taking photographs.
Photography is really my passion as well as my hobby. I will not be continuing Photography as a course in college. I will be focusing on my major, which is nursing, so I hope this tutor position will give me the opportunity to share my knowledge with others and help inspire others to create their own work.
