I acquired a fine arts degree in Sequential Art (cartooning, storyboards, children's book illustration) from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004 and a fine arts degree in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2011.

I completed my student teaching at the Benito Juarez Community Academy, where I co-taught digital design classes and photography classes.

I volunteered and taught as a drawing instructor at both the Rumble Arts Community Center in Humboldt Park and Right Brain Studios in Oak Park from 2010 to 2012, and I currently work full time as a designer, installer and printer for a sign company in downtown Chicago. I also work freelance as an illustrator/designer.

My tutoring style is loose, but controlled; I prefer to get to know the student and allow their interest and level of need pilot the lessons. I also believe in being prepared, and I often design back up lessons or modify lessons on the fly to fit the needs of the student. My main area of interest is in design and cartooning and I prefer to use pop culture, film, cartoons, comic books, etc. as a method of lesson delivery. Anything to keep the lesson fresh and relevant to the learner.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have a fine arts degree in sequential art (cartooning, storyboarding, children's book illustration) from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

I am a published cartoonist. I also have taught as a drawing instructor at the the Rumble Arts Community Art Center in Humboldt Park.

Painting

Painting was my main area of focus as a student teacher in the Spiral art program at UIC. I have taught painting techniques at various non prof art centers. I worked as a freelance muralist before I entered the art education program at UIC.

Photography

I am well versed in digital photography editing techniques and familiar with non-digital as well. I taught digital photography courses during my student teaching work at Benito Juarez Community Academy in Chicago, IL. I am an avid fan of contemporary photographers such as Cindy Sherman and Jeff Wall.
