HI! I'm Mr. C.! I'm a 1st Grade Bilingual Teacher at Chicago Public Schools. I love teaching kids! I teach my first graders everything from Reading, Writing, Phonics, Mathematics, Science, to Social Studies. Before I taught 1st Grade, I used to teach 11th Grade Spanish.
While my Masters is in Foreign Language (Spanish K-12), I'm also certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) and all the above mentioned subject areas. I recently tutored 4th graders in an after-school program designed to help boost ISAT scores through supplemental learning activities. We analyzed reading passages, worked on improving grammar/spelling and math concepts. All students showed growth in all of those areas through a pre and post test by the end of the session.
I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and Teaching Certificate through National-Louis University, Chicago in 2012. Before that, I received my Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Michigan in 2008. My philosophy of teachings is that students need to be engaged in what there learning for it to stick. Tutors can do this by making the lesson related, relevant, and fun to learn. I teach my students using project-based learning, problem-solving techniques, and multi-media.
