I am pleased to submit my resume for consideration as an elementary tutor. I have over 27 years of experience as an elementary school teacher and have taught across diverse educational settings including rural, suburban, and urban districts. We relocated to Chicago last year due to my partner’s new position as an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Service Administration (SSA), University of Chicago. I am currently a title 1 teacher at St. Michaels the Archangel School in Chicago through Discover Music and Discover Life. I am also the physical education instructor and librarian at St. Michael. I have also subbed and volunteered at Loomis Primary Academy which recently led to a part time position as the reading and math enrichment teacher for kindergarten through second grade. I have the desire, expertise, and experience to provide all students with an excellent education and believe I will be a valuable asset to your child's education.
I have a rich and varied professional training background which lends itself to adapting to new educational settings. I am trained in diversified teaching strategies and incorporate a variety of formal and informal assessments to ensure that students are taught at their instructional level. This includes the use of standardized testing as both a means of understanding educational outcomes and assessing areas of need. I use specific strategies to deliver individualized instruction such as small groups or workshops during math instruction which allows for efficient tracking and assessment of students. For reading instruction I use guided reading techniques to deliver reading instruction to small groups of students that are assessed regularly and are grouped by academic needs. In order to facilitate and support student reading I have amassed a personal children’s literature library of over 1,000 books across a many genres and lexile levels which I share with students and parents. I am also proficient in the use of a wide range of educational technologies which can foster interactive and engaging lessons.
My greatest interpersonal strengths as a professional educator are my ability to inspire and motivate students across diverse settings and foster positive relationships with parents. I actively engage students by incorporating a hands-on learning and teaching approach as well as providing a structured and nurturing learning environment. I use CHAMPs as my classroom management program because I appreciate its proactive approach and its focus on conversation, help, activity, movement, and participation as tools in effective classroom management. I have a long history and continued commitment to including parents as partners in their child’s education. I meet with parents early on in the school year to introduce myself, build trust, and encourage communication. During the year I am in regular contact with parents regarding student’s progress to promote educational participation, reinforce education in the home, and boost student’s self-confidence and self-esteem.
I am excited about the opportunity to utilize my diverse teaching and training background in a new educational setting and the opportunities for professional learning this will include. I look forward to discussing with you the many ways in which I can make a significant contribution to your child's education. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
