As an educator and tutor, I seek to connect the subject material from the classroom to topics that are relevant to the students outside of the classroom. By building this bridge from the classroom to other aspects of students' lives, the material becomes relevant and studies have proven that this helps students to encode and recall information more effectively. I am able to build connections with students very quickly and build trust with my students, which only assists the learning process. By knowing my students as individuals and on a personal level, I can know what topics interest them outside of the classroom and incorporate those interests into their academic work. My passion truly lies in working with individuals from all backgrounds and helping to make tough, rigorous material accessible to every student. Seeing students begin to understand concepts and material that was once out of reach gives me the utmost satisfaction and I will do everything within my abilities to see to it that you will improve your knowledge base and skill set.
I will be graduating in May, 2013 from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in Education. My specific concentration is in social studies in the secondary level, but I will also be endorsed to teach in middle school levels and am extremely comfortable educating all ages. I am currently completing my student teaching experience at Kelvyn Park High School, where I am in charge of world studies and civics courses. I also have experience with standardized test prep, including the ACT. My skills also extend to the fine arts, including photography. I greatly look forward to working with you!
