Hello there, my name is Jane. I have more than 6 years of teaching experience, and am certified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL/ESL) and English. My most recent experience was focusing on helping students become better readers, writers, speakers and listeners in English. I also have helped students make large strides to increase reading and writing levels, focusing on grammar, punctuation, voice, comprehension, and communicating meaning.
I've been involved with teaching since the age of 16, when I started teaching swimming lessons on a small lake in Michigan. My love of helping others grew into majoring in English and Spanish, while continuing to teach swimming to the children of other students at Michigan State University. Upon graduation, I made my way around the world, teaching English to kindergarten and elementary school children in Korea. There, I became interested in teaching ESL, and when I returned to the US (after traveling throughout Korea, Japan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand), I knew I wanted to make a career of teaching English as a Second Language.
I moved to New York City to attend New York University, earning my Masters degree in TESOL. I have spent the last 5 years in New York, teaching ESL to middle and high school students in the Bronx. My husband and I took a short sabbatical when we backpacked around the world (yes, again!) and wound up making our new home in Chicago.
He has settled into a new job, and I truly miss interacting with students and learners of all ages, and would love to spend time helping you, or your child improve their skills. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to arrange tutoring sessions.
