I am a newly certified French teacher working on a master's in Teaching English as a Second Language. Most of my experience is in the public school setting working with entire classes as well as tutoring individuals on the one-on-one level. For French I enjoy immersion settings but fully understand the difficulty of this in a foreign language environment. Each student is unique, however, and I try to adapt my methods to what works best for each student. In a group setting I like to focus on communication, as that is something we all must learn no matter our level of second language learning. As for one-on-one environments, they offer the unique opportunity and priviledge to provide the student with individual, direct and intense instruction, and this is what I hope to provide through the WyzAnt service. I believe that learning a language can be very difficult and hope to always keep the learning environment as free as possible from anxiety while at the same time providing opportunities for students to learn at their own pace and constantly leave with the knowledge of new material and the confidence to use the new language in meaningful ways.
I first studied French at a young age, where I fell in love with not only the French language but language in general. This has led me to focus on teaching English as a second language, gaining a new found respect for my own first language. While I am still working on my master's in ESL, I have a degree in French and International Studies from Miami University and continued my studies after college in France, gaining a Certification in Wine & Spirits from Chateau Pécauld in the Jura region of France. Therefore, my mastery of both French and English is well founded, and I hope to lead others to their own mastery of either one of these languages, both which can provide endless career paths and personal opportunities for anyone that does.
