I'm an undergraduate student at Shimer College in Chicago. I was born in Costa Rica and raised in Mexico City. I'm fully bilingual (English and Spanish) and enjoy languages in general. I have worked with children of all ages, as a tutor as well as a camp counselor. I, myself was tutored throughout my schooling and found it to be extremely beneficial, not only in my learning but also in helping other to learn. I'm 23 years old, my hobbies include film, playing guitar, the visual arts and soccer. I hope to be given a chance to give back and help students just as I was at some point.
As far as my tutoring methods, I like to begin by listening to the student in our first meeting. This will help me understand what it is that they are looking for and how to plan the lessons. If the tutoring is for a course that they are taking I like to understand what the course entails and what are the expectations for completing that course successfully. If the tutoring is for personal enjoyment or in preparation for an independent exam, conversing with the student allows me to draw up a detailed and reasonable set of goals and objectives. My main concern is to assist the student in achieving the goals that they set for themselves. Thank you for reading!
