Hi! My name is Erik.

I have a master's degree in information systems and a minor in software engineering from DePaul University. Courses attended at DePaul include front end Java development, advanced C++ programming, E-Commerce web site design, information system analysis and design, and project management.

My undergraduate degree from Marquette University offered a great liberal arts education, where I majored in political science and minored in philosophy.

I have also worked in IT for 9 years as a software developer, project manager, and business analyst. Consequently, my students will received the benefit of real world hands-on experience in the full software development life cycle, including the analysis, design, development, and testing of software projects. Included in my achievements are the automation of the market regulation department business process of the Chicago Stock Exchange, automation of several processes at the Cook County treasurer's office, as well as other web application development projects. My development experience includes front end, back end, and middle tier development in several languages and databases.

My graduate assistantship at DePaul University responsibilities included tutoring students in the Athletic Academic Advising department in various computer science topics, including web site development and general computer skills. Other duties involved advising students on academic topics, management of the computer lab, and production of statistic for the NCAA for all DePaul sports teams.

I am interested in teaching/tutoring students from college age and above.

With my education in information systems and work experience in software development, I have both hands-on experience and academic training in the field of computer science.

I am facile with general computer use and willing to help students with their general computing questions.

HTML

I have been doing web development (which includes HTML) since graduate school. During my time as a graduate assistant for DePaul University, I created the department website in HTML. Over the next 9 years I developed many websites for various companies, which required manual HTML coding skills.

I am facile with hand-written HTML, as well as HTML embedded in ASP .Net pages or with other scripting/programming languages.

SQL

I have 9 years of SQL programming experience to draw from. I have performed database programming tasks throughout my career in information technology.

I can help write stored procedures, triggers, views, functions and many other SQL-based tasks on a database.

ASP.NET

I have programmed in ASP.Net for many years, and am currently studying the latest version, 4.0. I have also studied version 3.5, and am already facile with 3.5 and earlier now.

I can assist programming students in learning the language and how to build web sites using ASP.Net.

Computer Programming

At DePaul, I studied C++ and Java programming, as well as the C programming language and COBOL.

My real-world experience in .Net programming, Classic ASP, JSP, and many other languages provide me with a broad knowledge of procedural and object-oriented programming skills.

Computer Science

9 years of software development have given me a great deal of hands-on computer science skills. My background in Information Systems and Software development required computer science classes at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.

I can help students with general computer science related topics, and look forward to helping my students become knowledgeable in the field of computer science.

Macintosh

I have used a Macintosh computer for many years. I learned to use the Macintosh in photography classes, and currently use it for my general computing and photography needs, including with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

I can assist students with the general use of Macintosh computers.

C#

I have studied C# programming in the 2.0 and 3.5 versions. I am currently studying the 4.0 version of the language.

Coupled with my 9 years of programming experience and my education in software development at DePaul University, I can offer students a solid understanding of core concepts and the use of C# with ASP.Net.

Microsoft Project

As a project manager, I became familiar with the use of Microsoft Project in the real world. As a graduate student, I learned the use of Microsoft Project from an academic perspective. Both have given me a solid understanding of Microsoft Project and its use in Software Development Projects.
